Lecture Series: “Logging and the Comstock, Fire Management, and What to Expect in the Future.”

March 15, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Logging history and fire have changed the landscape and the forests of Northern Nevada, and going forward they are the two most important management issues to consider. Literally, hundreds of millions of board feet of lumber were used in the mines on the Comstock. We can learn a great deal about the future by taking a close look at what has happened since gold was discovered in the area around 1852. The Conservation Movement, the creation of the US Forest Service, the Environmental Movement have all taken place since the Mining Era and changed everything. Speaker: Scott Imus Scott Imus is a retired environmental consultant with an MS in Forestry from the University of Washington. Been in Nevada since 1987. “Forestry in Northern Nevada: History and Prognosis for the Future” Scott will talk about the historic use timbering on the Comstock, fire history, and current management issues with a slide show.
