Lecture Series: “Dominique Laxalt, An Iron Man that Started in a Wooden Wagon”

The legendary Laxalt family is well known in Nevada.

In many ways, Dominique Laxalt is the prototypical Basque. Leaving his homeland to seek economic opportunity in America, he struggled but through hard work and perseverance, succeeded against long odds. There is no way that could have occurred without the aid of his wife, Theresa. The program follows the ups and downs of of the Laxalt family’s journey and ends with the successes of the next Laxalt generation as Theresa and Dominique go to their final rewards!

Lecturer Bio: Mike Fischer, a life long Nevadan and former Dental Surgeon, Once retired he served as the “Director of the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs” under Governor Gibbons and Governor Sandoval’s Cabinet until the department was formally disbanded. He is now an independent scholar whose interests include the history of Nevada, cowboys, ranching, politics, bootlegging, gambling and crime.
