Author Robin Holabird presents readings and images from her new book “Around the World in 80 Movies” combining bucket-list destinations with must-see movies about those regions. In a highly imaginative blend of film locations, memories, and colorful travel essays, Robin Holabird offers an extensive and entertaining exploration of film locations far and wide, close to home, and everywhere in between. She explores heights at a summit of Machu Picchu and King Kong s adventures at the top of the Empire State Building. She examines film noir sites in San Francisco, romance in Paris, art in the Nevada desert for Burning Man, and Provence in the South of France. She takes her readers on epic journeys to Jordan, Scotland, and Egypt, among other exotic places, all the while providing insights and witty travel advice. Around the World in 80 Movies is the work of a film location mastermind and engaging travel companion who will delight and enlighten readers with her clever and piquant mixture of film lore and travel experiences.
Bio: Robin Holabird, Author, film expert, and world traveler Robin Holabird writes regularly about films and their locations, with her weekly program airing on Reno’s NPR affiliate KUNR at 88.7 FM every Friday. She also provides film commentary for KOH 780 AM and helped found Reno’s Film Festival. Her newest book, “Around the World in 80 Movies” (Ice Cube Press 2019), shows the link between films and travel destinations. As the editor of the magazine, Locations and her longtime experience as a film commissioner for the state of Nevada.
Robin has worked with Clint Eastwood, Taylor Hackford, PT Anderson and other directors on such projects as Love Ranch, Sister Act, and CSI. She earned certification and a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Nevada-Reno. An outdoor enthusiast who loves photographing locations throughout the world, Robin is a regular hiker and runner who finished the Boston Marathon six times.
